Sousa - We Deserved To Win
Sousa - We Deserved To Win

Paulo Sousa believes his side had done enough to come away from Cardiff with 3 points

The Swansea City manager watched in horror as Michael Chopra scored a stoppage time winner to deny the Swans a point that he was already believing was unlucky not to be three.

Sousa said after the game “I’m never worried.

“I’m always positive in my players and myself – everything. I always tell you that.

“We are there in the top six and if we keep doing the things that we are doing – like we did today – we will create more chances than our opponents and we will be there.

“The players are used to the games coming so quickly in this country,” said Sousa, when asked about the difficulty of raising morale before Scunthorpe’s visit.

“Winning or losing, of course, you recover differently. Winning is easier to recover mentally than when you lose, but we have Scunthorpe on Monday and we need to focus on that now.

“There is only one way to recover, to concentrate on our job and our task. Each player must concentrate.

“It is painful to lose a special game in this way. But these things happen in football and we need to bounce back straight away.

“You must remember that we dominated always and had more chances – but we must score more than the others.

“The present is not so nice but the future is all we think about now.

“I would like to have some players like Chopra but I think my chairman is always speaking about financial matters and players,” said the Portuguese. “We don’t have these type of players but we always have our own philosophy and for that we need to have respect.

“I hope that before the end of the season we find the quality needed to score goals.

“I’m very disappointed because this is another game we completely dominated,” he said. “We had to face a little bit of pressure early on but we scored and then dominated more than ever in the first half.

“We had some chances, the best one with van der Gun at the end of the first half. We needed to score then tactically conclude the game. There was a lack of concentration after we had that big chance to score the second goal.

“But we dominated more in the second half and had important opportunities to score. There was a big opportunity at the end of the game with Shefki Kuqi, and after that they scored.

“It’s not an easy moment for us but we need to believe in ourselves because we create more than our opponents in each game. We must have that confidence because we are always a better side than our opponents.

“Everyone can agree with me that we deserved to win this game, but they scored the goals to take the points.”
