Monk - No Repeat Of Scunthorpe Madness

Garry Monk has said that there will be no repeat of the red card madness against Scunthorpe United this time

The Swansea City captain was one of three red cards that the Swans received when Scunthorpe visited the Liberty back in August for a Carling Cup clash.

Monk was sent off along with Angel Rangel and Gorka Pintado and admits that he lost his cool in the game but will not be drawn into the situation again.

He said "I really regret what happened in that Carling Cup game.  I lost my coold because one of their players tried to cheat me.

"I should have let it go but I didn't and it ended up with me getting sent off.  I won't let that happen ever again.  if the Scunthorpe players try to wind me up again I'll just ignore it.  That night was a real low point for me because I let the team down.   No way will I get sucked into anything like that again.

"I'm the Swansea captain and I should have known better.  I've got to set an example.   The gaffer wasn't happy with the three of us for getting sent off which was understandable.

"I thought he might fine us but he just told us to make sure it never happens again.  I've learned my lesson you won't see me react like that in the rest of my career.

"I showed a lack of discipline in that game and I deserved to get the red card.  I should have known better.  I'm normally a lot better with that kind of stuff.

"I felt terrible afterwards because I'd let the boys and the manager down.   I apologised straight away.   The referee had to take some of the blame because he didn't control the game from start to finish.  He should have booked O'Connor for diving.  If he had done that then I wouldn't have confronted him but that's no excuse for what I did.

"Every game is huge now.  It's crucial we get the points against Scunthorpe."
