Garry Monk has spoken out at his frustration over Tuesday's yellow card

The Swansea City captasin will be forced to sit out Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace after picking up his 5th booking of the season in Tuesday's defeat to Wigan in the Carling Cup.

But he believes that the card - along with 2 more of his 5 yellows - was not deserved as he explained to the Western Mail “The lad was laughing on the floor after I was supposed to have fouled him

“I asked him why he dived and he said sorry and that he didn’t mean to get me booked.

“What does the referee want me to do? I didn’t touch him or try to play the ball.

“It’s disappointing. I was angry because I tried to avoid the booking.

“Sometimes referees are not brave enough to give those decisions against Premier clubs.

“I’m not blaming the ref for the loss, but he seemed to want to give them a foul every two seconds.

“But I guess that’s what happens when a referee is in charge of a Premier League side against lower-league opposition. They don’t want to offend the Premier League players.

“I’ve been unlucky this season. Two out of the five are probably deserved but I’ve been really unlucky with the others.

“Thankfully it’s only one game and the matches are coming so quickly it will be out of the way by Saturday and I will be back for the Cardiff game.”

Monk also believes that the Swans can be proud after their defeat which was watched by a hugely impressive travelling army of 4,500 supporters

“We can hold our heads up high.

“We had great travelling support, it was just a shame we didn’t get them the result they wanted.

“Roberto’s line-up was very strong and that is credit to us.

“I thought we started really well and the goal that was disallowed looked a bit debatable, you need to get those kind of breaks.

“Since the start of the season when we had a couple of away defeats we’ve learnt from that and grown in confidence and we look very decent on the road.

“The league is our main priority. We have to use this as motivation to really fight for those top spots.”
