Swansea Battle For Chelsea’s Bertrand

The chase for Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand looks to be hotting up, with West Brom, Wolves, Bolton and Fulham all linked with a move

Today’s Sun is linking the England U-21 full-back with a host of Premier League clubs, and it is thought that Chelsea are keen on securing first team football for the defender next term.

A permanent move is likely to be out of the reckoning, with a price tag of £5m being touted as the only fee which would persuade the Blues into parting with one of their best youth talents.

Swansea have been strongly linked with a loan deal for the 21 year old over the past few weeks, moreso since the rumours surrounding Neil Taylor’s future have surfaced.

With the former Wrexham defender still looking likely to make the move north to Newcastle, Brendan Rodgers needs to recruit a suitable left back, and Bertrand seems to fit the bill.

Rodgers signed the left back while manager of Reading, and spent time working with him during his spell at Stamford Bridge as coach, so a move seems to be a realistic option.

Bertrand last week spoke of his desire to make a loan move away from Chelsea, citing the success of Scott Sinclair at the Liberty as a motivator for seeking a temporary switch.
