New Deal For Britton
New Deal For Britton
Tuesday, 5th Feb 2013 08:00 by Phil Sumbler

Leon Britton has signed a new deal that will keep him at Swansea City until the summer of 2016.

Britton first joined the Swans on loan in December 2002 from West Ham and was part of the side that successfully fought against relegation from the football league in that season.

He left the club briefly at the start of their promotion season to the Premier League when he joined Sheffield United but returned in the January transfer window and has been an integral part of the side ever since.

He has made over 400 appearances for the club since he arrived and shows no signs of wanting to move on as he prepares to potentially end his career at the Liberty Stadium

"I'm delighted," says Leon.  "I know I've said it before but I would love nothing more than to finish my career here.

"It's been my life for the last ten years, apart from a six month sabbatical at Sheffield United, of course, and there's no other place I'd rather be playing my football.

"I never expected things to turn out the way they have when I returned from Sheffield two years ago.  The club was in the Championship at the time and there ws certainly no guarantee of promotion.  But we went straight up into the Premier League and have established ourselves in our second season and we are now looking forward to our first major cup final."

Just two weeks ago top scorer signed a new deal at the club as the Swans look to tie their star performers into longer term deals.
