For those of you who like poetry we have had a contribution from a budding Poet Noel Evans, who funnily enough isnt a Saints fan but a Swansea City season ticket holder of some 20 years standing 

However after researching Southampton Football Club he found it so interesting he decided to write a poem dedicated to  our great institution called The St Mary's March

My knowledge of poetry isnt great, so I leave reviews of Stephen to others who do, below are a couple of comments on his art.   

"Leap Of Faith" is a collection of sixteen poems; each can stand independently of its own. The poems are very easy to read and readers can very easily relate to the poetry.

"Leap Of Faith" is truly an exceptional book from a budding author. Written in a very simple and refreshing format, a revival of poetry in a market where poetry is virtually dead due to the preconceptions of readers and publishers. This book shatters all preconceived beliefs regarding the reading and enjoyment of poetry.

THE SAINT MARY'S MARCH :

There's only one team, makes me feel so alive.

Who were formed, way back in 1885.

The love bug has got me, with every home match.

My beloved Saints, my heart you did catch.

You've been my team, since the day I was born.

My allegiance for you, forever is sworn.

The fever pitch grips me, when I see the sight.

Of our boys in our famous, colours - red and white.

Stories of legends, like our Matt Le Tiss.

And how from twelve yards, only once he did miss.

The great Micky Channon, a Saint through and through.

And Keegan and Shearer, to name but a few.

We've had some great gaffers, I'm sure you did see.

Like Arnfield and Nicholl, and George Burley.

Don't forget Nigel, who's taken us up.

And of course Lawrie, who won us the cup.

In 2001, we said our farewell.

To our beloved fortress, there was only one Dell.

But now we've moved on, to our stunning new ground.

The Saints marching in, is a wonderful sound.

Southampton's my club, and always will be.

I'll support you forever, with such loyalty.

Down at St Mary's, we'll sing loud for you.

And I'm so proud to say, that I was there too.

Bulgarian added 13:27 - Mar 21 Ha! Interesting indeed, and almost unbelievable that somebody being a non-Saint can write such a poem about us. IMO the most remarkable thing here is the gift itself: a very original present to Saints fans in verse and rhyme. Truly, we should make a collection of such Southampton FC non-commercial "art memorabilia", including pictures, artist impressions, literature, author songs, installations etc. A nice idea for a separate page of this site. There is something which I'd name "Saints culture" which apart from the official stuff and matchday spontaneity shows how the Club progresses though time as an Idea and not only an Institution. (It starts with a birthday card or cake with our logo on it, and nobody knows the dimensions of future progressions.) In other words, such curiosities may be regarded as genuine elements of the Saints culture if we will be looking back in 20-30-40 years time. Cheers to Noel

Bulgarian added 13:36 - Mar 21 Sic!: Burley etc. - and this is a very good example of what we should appreciate when a non-Saint writes about us. Remember: according to Nick's words, the author got inspired "after researching Southampton Football Club". So it may be that some Burley info caught his eye, or just that the name rhymes with "did see" (in a way) - and I'm sure it's the second - however THIS is how others form their opinions about us. Not bad, not bad: better in people's mouths (and rhymes) rather than their feet.
