Chelsea Wanted Michael
Thursday, 10th Oct 2013 06:30
Michael Laudrup has admitted today that Chelsea approached him in the summer to take over at Stamford Bridge although nothing concrete was ever discussed.
The early part of the summer was spent with a certain agent releasing stories to the press about the dissatisfaction that Laudrup had in Swansea and it is no surprise that Michael also admits that the interest in Chelsea came through a third party intermediary.
Laudrup's stock was high in the summer having led the Swans to a top half finish in the Premier League as well as returning them into Europe thanks to their triumph in the Capital One Cup.
However, the Swans manager showed no interest in exploring the Chelsea approach further having already given his word that he would be in Swansea for the new season.
"Someone tried to know my availability through intermediaries, but there was nothing concrete," the Dane told A Bola.
"Also, I had given my word that I would be in Swansea."
Chelsea eventually turned to former manager Jose Mourinho to take over from Rafa Benetiz for the new season.
