Michu - This Is All Down To Michael
Thursday, 10th Oct 2013 06:35

"One of the best managers I have ever worked with" was the words of Michu after he spent his first few days with the Spain squad after his call up last weekend.

Michu got the first call up of his career on Sunday after the Swans game at Southampton and could feature for the World and European Champions in their two qualifiers over the next week that should secure their place in Brazil for next summer.

And he was under no illusion that the impact of Laudrup on his career made the difference and he told the club's official website “It's because of Michael Laudrup that I am here

“He is one of the best managers I have ever worked with in my life.”

Michu was one of the bargains of last summer when he signed for the Swans for just £2m and he went onto score a total of 22 goals in all competitions, a figure that he has increased this season with 5 more.

And that earned him his first call up after he was overlooked back in February when he was expected to be in the squad.

He also revealed that he was working closely with Juan Mata on how the training worked and he added "It is very difficult, it is a high level,

In my first training Juan Mata told me ‘the ball flies’ here.

"I feel like I am annoying Juan Mata as I am always asking him about the training and the new experience.

"Mata is helping me a lot, I know him very well. I can't describe the feeling when I went into the pitch wearing the shirt of the best team of the world.

"But it is very easy to play with all these players. The players who are in the squad are the best in the world and they're at the maximum level.

"There is a lot to learn from them and obviously they make you play better at a higher level.

"For all footballers, to play for your country is the best. It is the biggest achievement in my career. I came here to enjoy and to try to qualify for the World Cup.

"I was quite nervous but now I am enjoying every training. If I have the chance to play, it will be good. I will be very happy if it happens."

Michu will wear the number 7 shirt.
