There's Only One Thing We Can Do Now
Tuesday, 4th Feb 2014 22:18

Michael Laudrup's sacking may have come at a time when we maybe didn't expect it and I suspect there are many out there that completely disagree with the timing or indeed the sacking in general but there simply is only one thing that we can do from here on in and that is back the team and go all out for the points that we need to stay in the Premier League.

However, first things first it is a massive thanks to Michael Laudrup. He may have only been here for 18 months but when you looked back on his tenure not only did he deliver our first (and to date only) major trophy in the Capital One Cup he also led us to wins at Anfield, The Emirates, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford and the Mestalla. Massive results for a club of our status and days that I will never forget no matter how long I will support this football team. He led us through a brilliant first season and there is no doubt in my mind that his time here was a success it is just a shame that it ended the way that it did rather than in another blaze of glory somewhere along the line.

However, let's not chastise the bloke just because he has been sacked and there is certainly no need for any revisionism when you consider the victories mentioned above as well as the rest of the brilliant results an performances that we put in over those 18 months.

The time though is now to move on, for whatever reason the board decided that Michael's time was up and felt it was in the best interests of the football club that the two parties parted company and a new appointment was needed. We know that they will not have taken the decision lightly and they are not exactly knee jerk when it comes to getting rid of managers with the last one being more than ten years ago.

We also know that their track record of appointments is good so let's not write off Garry Monk before a ball is kicked (or passed) in anger as many gave Roberto Martinez no hope nor Brendan Rodgers for that matter so although it is an unlikely appointment it doesn't automatically follow that it is the wrong one.

I have to confess to not being sure that I would have fired the bullet just at this point in time but I also suspect that I do not - and maybe never will - know the full story behind the sacking so I don't speak from a position of knowledge on this one.

It means though in the long run that there is only one thing that we can do from here and that is go with the decision and back Garry and his team to get the results that we so desperately crave starting this Saturday at the Liberty against Cardiff.

The club has asked us to deck the Liberty in black and white and that is what we need to do from here, be loud and proud behind the team on Saturday. We know that we have the quality to keep ourselves in this division and the best we can do is back Garry to get the best out of the players and lead us to safety.

Its as its ever was. Club first Team first. Managers just pass through. LAUDRUP sadly seemed to have lost impetus but its a bad time to sack him -possibly. The Board clearly thought ,all things considered, that he would have taken us down.
We have lacked basic guts and that will not happen with Monk
