QPR took their spending to half a million pounds this Friday afternoon with the signing of Simon Walton from Charlton for 200,000 pounds. The midfielder spent last season on loan at Cardiff and Ipswich.

The 19 year old midfielder has put pen to paper on a 3 year deal and becomes John Gregory's seventh signing of the summer.

Simon started his career at Leeds United and was a first teamer by the age of 16 in 2004. He made 32 appearances on his first full season but after Leeds threw money at trying to return to the Premiership, Walton found himself out of favour and was used just 5 times the following year.

Iain Dowie made Walton his first Charlton signing last season but following Dowie's much publicised departure from the club, Walton fell down the pecking order and was subsequently loaned out to Ispwich. He made 19 appearances and scored 3 goals for the Tractor boys but was later loaned to Cardiff for the rest of the campaign.

On signing, Walton told the Official QPR Website;

"I've already played five full games during pre-season with Charlton, so I feel fresh and I'm raring to go.

I might not play well every week, but I will always give 100 per cent. That's probably one of the main pluses of my game. Now I can't wait for the first game of the season against Bristol City on 11th August."

Gaffer John Gregory added;

"Simon is 19 years old but his presence on the field belies his age. I think he is going to quickly become a fans' favourite with his no-nonsense approach and 100% commitment to wearing the blue and white hooped shirt."

WELCOME and GOOD LUCK SIMON!!!
