Rumours are rife in the footballing World that Juventus are about to try and entice Mauricio Pochettino to become their new coach.

In a bizarre twist Antonio Conte has resigned as head coach of Juventus after only one day of pre season training, its been a stressful time for Conti of late as he was caught up in a match fixing scandal that for his part he was given a touchline ban for four months for failing to report attempted match fixing.

This did not stop him winning his third straight Serie A title in as many seasons with Juve, presiding over one of the clubs best ever periods in the league.

Now though he is gone and sources in Italy are reporting that Pochettino is on the club's hit list of possible replacements.

If Juve do come calling it will be interesting to see what Pochettino's reaction will be, Saints fans will claim that the man has little loyalty and in hindsight the Argentinian seemed to form little bond with Saints, either the club or the fans apart from clapping them at the end of a game, indeed he did not even show the media the courtesy of speaking in English too them, as if it was all part of a big game, whilst the fans loved him for getting Saints to 8th in the league, they soon found that the feeling was seemingly not mutual and that for him it was nothing more than a job, to be left behind the moment another club came calling with the offer of more money.

Pochettino is obviously ambitious and harboured hopes of working at bigger club's that Saints, now we will perhaps find out if those ambitions stretch further than Spurs and if Juventus come calling whether he will honour his contract or walk out of it as he did with Saints.

If he does go then it will leave Tottenham in chaos with less than a month to go to the season as they will lose not only Pochettino but his retinue of coaches that h has with him at St Mary's and who followed him to North London meaning that Spurs would not only lose a manager but their entire backroom staff.

SaintinMalta added 08:11 - Jul 16 The football I witnessed watching Saints last season was the best I've seen in 50 years of supporting the club (with the possible exception of the Div 1 Runners-Up side of the early 80's). I'm sure Poch will go on to manage Barca, Real, or PSG one day. And, unfortunately, I believe he will be a big success with Spurs in the interim. Personally, I wish he'd stayed with us - but alas, it wasn't to be.

IanRC added 08:31 - Jul 16 SaintinMalta disagree, thought they played great stuff under Nigel Atkins and further back under the likes of Gordon Strachan and Dare I say it Glenn Hoddle. Pochettino inherited a great squad, failed to improve it much and was a one trick pony tactically. If he is at at Spurs expect him to be found out and sacked during his first season.

Rednose added 10:22 - Jul 16 Strange one this. I agree with all the comments, but lean more towards IanRC. Mainly because, although the stats every game were good, the main one (final score) was not always in our favour. Teams did find MP out, but maybe we didn't have the personnel to make the changes needed, guess we'll ever know. Interesting though because as much as I don't give a toss about Spurs it would be out of order if he was to walk out on them at this stage, especially after everything thats gone on and been paid out. More front than Tesco's comes to mind. Just goes to show show perhaps you do reap what you sow. Still hay ho we've started with a win (the fact that they were a low dutch league team doesn't matter) on wards and upwards for Saints.

SaintNick added 12:24 - Jul 16 Malta highlighted a point about perception, his perception is this was the best football in 50 years, stats dont back that up and if I look back i can think of many sides that were better in terms of excitement and league position inlcuding Keegan era 80-82, Le tissier and shearer era 88-91 and as mentioned strachan and hoddle. Also the pwerception that we would have come a bit higher if jay rod had not been injured, there were 5 games left after j rod got injured, we took 8 points out of those games that was 1.6 per game, a higher ratio than the 1.45 up to that point, if we had won every game then we would have finished on 63 points and been level with man utd on points, but given their goal difference we would probably have ended up exactly where we ended up. Sometimes perception is not backed up by reality

For what it's worth, I have been supporting Saints since 1968, and with the exception of the Steve Williams team of the early '80's, and the football we played was outstanding. With respect Nick, your comments about 'perception' are bizarre. Entertainment is, by it's very nature, subjective, and cannot be backed up with stats. Some people find simply scoring goals and winning games entertaining in itself. I prefer to see some passing and slick football to go along with that. Last season I would rather watch us drawing 0-0 than West Ham winning 4-0. All about opinions! Unfortunately, I think Poch will do very well this season, and whilst I am happy with Koeman as a replacement, the jury is out until I am able to judge with my own eyes!
