Andy Awford is weighing up bringing Michael Drennan into Pompey's side at Hartlepool on Saturday.

Drennan has rejoined the Blues for a second loan spell from Aston Villa and the Pompey boss said: Awford told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'I’ve watched him in the flesh and on television recently and he gives us options because he can play as a striker, just behind or out wide.

'Having spoken to him, I know he’s up for the challenge and he’s familiar with the surroundings, so it’s good to work with him again.'

Awford is unlikely to make too many changes, having been content with the way his troops performed in home games against Dagenham and Wycombe that yielded four points.

He said: 'We’ve had a good reaction since the Southend game, when we were all bitterly disappointed with both the performance and result. In an ideal world we would have liked maximum points from the two home games, but I would have taken four points if you’d offered me that beforehand.

'And, as we approach the 10-game mark, I’m happy that we’re in touch with the leading pack. We now have two long trips ahead of us and it’s important that we take our home form on the road.'
