Manchester United To Launch Bid For Sadio Mane
Wednesday, 19th Aug 2015 15:53

Manchester United are about to launch a shock bid for Sadio Mane after missing out on Barcelona winger Pedro to Chelsea.

Manchester United are feeling miffed that they have missed out on Pedro to big rivals Chelsea in the bidding for Pedro and seem keen to flex their muscles and show the other big boys in the playground that they are still top dog, therefore they are nor rumoured to be going for Saints Sadio Mane.

Although im sure that Saints will reject the offer out of hand, how much of an unsettling effect it will have n the player himself is uncertain and the fact that the press are putting this about suggests that they are being briefed from someone close to Old Trafford.

If United are to tempt Saints for Mane then they will need to be doubling the £10 million spend to bring him from Red Bull Salzburg and then some.

Just get tired of teams coming after our players. Montero at Swansea has been much better than Sadio so far this season and for much of last season as well. Yet for some reason it always seems to be our players that are targeted. Problem is, when a club like Man U comes in for a player it is very hard to keep them.

For goodness sake. No way should Saints consider anything here. Both Manure and Liverhampton seem to be building teams of ex-Saints players but above all else there is no time left to get replacements in, so the board should not listen and close their ears. If this did happen I fear that even Koeman would start losing the will.

How is this a "Shock"? He's our only threat, so they strengthen their team and knock us tumbling down the standings into our "place".

This is one of the many reasons the window should close when the league starts-no matter when other leagues begin-the Prem is the big money one and should call the shots.

Damn. He'll be gone then.
Agree with Fordy - why always us and not Swansea etc?

By the way, it'd be a bad move for him. Mane is good but he's far from the finished article and Utd won't have the patience

Not getting emotional, but I’m feeling pretty despondent as a saints fan today

Sky Sports are reporting that he would be a cheap option for Pedro (£21m)
That implies that they expect him to be sold for significantly less. We bought him only last year for £11.8m! Any reputation we built as a team that didn’t give up players easily is in tatters.

Maybe it’s because we capitulated over Clyne, Maybe it’s because we have sold nearly an entire first 11 in 2 years.

Maybe its beacuase Koeman himself has pointed out that only 2 out of 7 of last season’s defensive players started against Everton
Oh well, we still have Jose Fonte for the time being.

Jesus Christ, Jesus 0, why so sad?

As we've shown we are shrewd in the market, we didn't let Morgan go when we needed him, we didn't capitulate over Clyne, he wanted to go, so the sensible business was to attain the highest price for a player who only had one year left on his contract. I would Imagine that Peter Reed will say of course he's for sale, have you got £25m - £30m?

Plus as we have become very aware, the press are amazing at putting 2 and 2 together, joining all the dots and coming up with a sensational transfer story.

I would disagree about Montero, Mane was far superior last season, even Swans fans will agree.

How about we do £20m plus Hernandez?

Boondock - I have always wondered that about the window but I think it is for the Euro qualifying round clubs to reassess after they qualify/fail to qualify.

Funny that everyone immediately assumes we will sell on the basis of a rumour...

I've not wet the bed, monged much doom or negged myself off lately but if this runs to form it could be disastrous. If serious (and Mane wants to go) AND we get really big money that's not specifically the worry. It's the effect on the dressingroom, particularly Wanyama, that would likely be the problem. We can not allow him to be unsettled. Anyway, we can replace them both for about 10 million total so why worry?
Bit surprised no-one has pointed the finger at our old mate Morgan yet?

As much as I find it amusing that a number of forum posters were saying Mane wasn't cutting it just under a year ago, I can't dwell on this as I am thinking it would be suicide if the rumours are true and we let him go. He's our biggest attacking threat at this current time. We could kiss goodbye to any decent league position if we lost him. I'm sure the board will realise this.

I think I need to get into the laundry trade in this city and offer a comprehensive and discreet bed drying service.

Mane, not a winger, nothing like Pedro, not a ManU player, not going.
Press, lots of rumours, no idea what 2+2=, 1% success rate
Transfer window, should close before the season starts
Calm down Ladies !!!

Not very helpful gpsgm, especially as RK was in a very and mood at the pressie. Things are not going well and it doesn't surprise me.

You all realize, if our team could keep clean sheets, we could too?

Mane has the potential to be a very good player indeed, really surprised it has taken the incompetent managers who earn so much money at clubs like Liverpool and MU so long to spot this. I really think I could do their jobs given the unlimited funds the 'fair play' rules give them. Absolute bo!!ocks.

Apparently he's 'not for sale' so I'll change my nappy now

Nearly crashed the car on my way home when I heard this. Would be gutted if Sadio left. He has been our brightest spark so far this season and I feel there would be lots more to come now as he is getting into his stride.

If Man U are calling then I feel no matter what our "club officials' say if a player wants to go then he's gone. I fear the lure of Man u is too great.

Morgan, Toby & possibly Sadio. All big losses. I don't mean to sound like a doom monger but it is quite depressing added on top of the 3-0 home defeat. Lets hope for a good win tomorrow night.

Keep the faith!!

I'm with corkcity on this - without Mane, we are a bog standard attacking team. This news is awful; though I'm not surprised at all - he really is a world class attacker in the making; wing, striker or AM.

Heard on 5 live this morning that the club have admitted an approach for Mane, that doesn't mean we will sell, but a high bid would appeal to our current philosophy and thats the worry.
I think Mane needs to round his game, bags of potential but not yet consistent enough. Manure won't have the patience to finish him. Very good point made about clubs deliberately trying to weaken us. If Mane did go, how long is Koeman going to put up with it? We will struggle to keep Wanyama, JRod (if he's back to form) and Mane but a good European campaign could do many good things for us and thats why we keep Mane to help achieve that.

Guys, don't listen to anything in the press that involves Saints players. It is just the rumour mongers circling again. They have constantly been creating stories about our players for the last 2 years and I guess that this is the price of our success with consecutive top 8 finishes.
Of course Our successful players will attract interest from the vultures above, but Man U really are the kings of sleaze when it comes to transfers. Remember it was them who announced on their official MUTV channel, that their signing of Clyne was a done deal - of course he is a Man U player now isn't he !! ?
With Clyne and Morgan, the situations were slightly different, as they had 1 yr left or had been promised a move, but with Mane, he is only a year into his contract. We can and suspect will, say no.
I find it strange that the same people who were using him as the Scapegoat and calling him such things as the new Guly, just 7 or 8 months back, are the ones who are desperate for him to stay !!
I am not convinced that Mane is a Man Utd type player, especially as they signed that Memphis. He is also not the finished article that Pedro is, so I doubt their interest is plausible - LVG only buys established players (Shaw aside) and is retiring at the end of next season anyway - so needs to win big now, hence his big spending.
Arsenal were previously showing an interest in Mane, according to the press at least, but that died a death.
We certainly don't need the money, so don't need to sell. We have cash left over from this and last season's sales, so we should be strengthening the squad In defence and perhaps adding a winger, not selling one. The club should appease the fans by officially closing the out door !!
I just hope all the speculation doesn't affect tonight's performance and a safe passage to the group stages of the Europa will encourage us to get in a couple of new players.
