Monk - We Had The Chances To Beat Hull

Garry Monk looked back over a host of chances wasted by the Swans when he talked about the Capital One Cup final defeat at Hull and believed that nine times out of ten they had enough chances to win the game.

The Swans boss saw his chances of lifting the cup at Wembley next year disappear as his team went down to a solitary goal in the first half that came completely against the run of play.

The Swans had 64% possession and almost three times as many attempts at goal as their hosts but were unable to convert any of that advantage into a goal and were undone by the only goal five minutes before half time.

It was a night of frustration not just for Monk but for the 300 strong travelling support who made the journey to the KC Stadium only to come home empty handed and planning for the trip to Southampton on Saturday.

If we played that game ten times, we would have won nine of them,” said the Swans boss.

“We had so many chances in the first half that it could have been a cricket score.

“It was the classic situation where you leave yourself open to that sucker punch.

“We played some excellent football and carved them open at will but couldn’t take the chances that our football deserved.

“I wanted to make a tactical change in the second half but wasn’t able to because Franck had to come off due to cramp. We wanted to get Jeff (Montero) on to give us that width and stretch them.

“It didn’t go for us tonight, but we’ve proven what a good attacking team we are. We’ve created chances, but we just need to finish them off."
