Bruce - We Rode Our Luck

Steve Bruce that Hull City could count themselves lucky to get through their Capital One Cup tie against the Swans last night as David Meyler's strike was the difference between the two sides as the Swans missed a host of chances.

The Swans had three times the amount of attempts on goal compared to their hosts and with almost two thirds of the possession it was little wonder that everyone was wondering after the game just how Hull got through to reach the Fourth Round against the run of play.

And one of those was home boss Steve Bruce who knew that his side rode their luck against us and the goal very much came against the run of play.

“Some of their first half chances came from our mistakes, and usually when you make mistakes against sides at that level you get punished but we got away with it,” said Bruce.

"I agree Swansea could have had four or five goals in that first half and they were very, very good in the first 25 minutes until we got to grips with how they played. But we had two or three great chances in the first half, too.

“We changed one or two things which we needed to and defensively we were much better after half time.

“All in all, we rode our luck a bit but we’re in the hat for the next round and sometimes you need luck to have a cup run. We probably had more luck in this game than we did in six months of last season.

“It was our night and all credit to the players because they stuck at their task. The longer it went the more comfortable we became and that was good to see against a very good Swansea team.”
