Southampton Next - We Need A Goal
Wednesday, 23rd Sep 2015 06:11 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The Swans will head off to Southampton on Saturday looking to get their season back to winning ways and end a run of three straight games without a goal into the bargain.

When Bafetimbi Gomis scored the Swans last goal against Manchester United on August 30th, the Swans lifted themselves into fourth place in the Premier League and they headed into the international break with confidence high and form looking brilliant.

A blank at Southampton on Saturday will ensure that the team went through the whole of September without finding the back of the net and that is something that Garry Monk will be conscious of as he starts his Southampton preparation in earnest this morning.

In truth the Swans had the chances to score plenty against Hull last night and there were chances last weekend against Everton but we also need to remember that in the league we have only had two different players on target in our opening six games.

That again is something that we will be looking to change sooner rather than later as we go to St Mary's a place where we got a superb win against the run of play last season thanks to a late strike from Jonjo Shelvey.

With just two games left now until the next international break the Swans will be looking to get their season started again with a win which would lift us further up the table and restore some of the confidence that we may have lost over the past three games.

Outside of Watford the Swans have not really put in a bad performance this season but last night was a blow when we should be thinking about who we are playing next rather than pushing our focus solely on the Premier League at least until December when we find out who we will face in the FA Cup.

Southampton's season has not gone to plan this season with an early European exit and indifferent league form seeing them currently in 16th place but with the ability to overtake the Swans with the right result.

What we really need is a performance, goals and points this weekend not because we are being dragged places we don't want to go but just to kick start the season again and ensure that the excellent start we had in August isn't taken back to something that just looks ordinary.

We remain a good team and I remain in the camp that says we will do it this weekend.

What will the result be against Southampton?
