Clement - I Have My Own Transfer Ideas

Whilst the questions may have been about Chelsea legends John Terry and Frank Lampard, Paul Clement had words that would have pleased Swansea fans everywhere as he talked about his own transfer targets for the window.

Less than 48 hours into the job, Clement was facing the press for the first time and with the January transfer window already open it was no surprise that the conversation turned towards transfer targets and what could be done before the month ends.

One of the questions was around Terry and Lampard. Clement worked with them both during his time at Stamford Bridge and it was suggested when Harry Redknapp was hawking himself around for the role that they could both make a move to South Wales but it was something that was effectively ruled out by the Swans head coach “We have to be realistic. I cannot ever see John wearing another shirt apart from Chelsea.

“Frank is a different situation, he has stopped playing. I would love to have him here but again we have to be realistic and my impression from people close to him is that he is going to take a break from the game.”

There has been much criticism aimed at the club in recent years for the lack of involvement in transfers by the manager with targets supposedly signed without the input of the manager. That appears to be something that is not necessarily the case this time and Clement was keen to point out that he had his own ideas on who he would like to see coming to join him

“We have to be realistic. I cannot ever see John wearing another shirt apart from Chelsea.

“Frank is a different situation, he has stopped playing. I would love to have him here but again we have to be realistic and my impression from people close to him is that he is going to take a break from the game.”
