Paul Clement has made another addition to his coaching staff by bringing to the Liberty former Chelsea defender Claude Makelele who has signed a deal until the end of the season to link back up with Clement.

The two of them worked together at Paris St Germain and also played together for Chelsea.

Clement has already recruited Nigel Gibbs and Karl Halabi from Tottenham’s coaching staff and now adds Makelele to his backroom staff as he looks to secure the form that will see the Swans rise out of the relegation zone.

Makelele had a distinguished playing career that saw him win 71 caps for his native France as well as a place in the World Cup Final of 2006 but his coaching career is yet to hit similar heights although he was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at PSG before a managerial spell lasted just six months at Bastia.

He has immediately joined the staff and the team as they prepare for the weekend visit of Arsenal t the Liberty.

“I am really excited to be here and I am happy to start working at Swansea,” said Makelele

“Paul is my mentor. He has taught me a lot of things in my time working with him.

“When I heard he was back working in the Premier League, I phoned him and asked if I could help him at Swansea.

“Paul has given me the opportunity to come back to the Premier League, and I’m very grateful because I’ve really missed it.

“I know him very well and he knows me too. I think I have a lot to give, and hopefully I can help Paul and Swansea.”
