Saints Again Linked With Portugese Defender Wednesday, 24th May 2017 09:49 Last summer Saints were linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Semedo, reports in Portugal say the move could be back on. Ruben Semedo was linked with a transfer to St Mary's last summer, the 23 year old seems to be in the mould of the usual Saints signings in that he is able to play both in the centre of defence and as a holding midfield player. Last summer he was pretty much under the radar when Saints were linked, after spending much of the previous few seasons out on loan, in 2015/16 he played the first half at Vitoria Setubal before returning to the Sporting squad for the second half and cementing a place in the starting line up. He has been a regular this season and at 23 is said to be ready to move to a bigger league despite the fact that he has little experience at the top level in Portugal, most of his loan appearances being in the lower division. The Sporting fans seem to think he is going unfurling a banner saying Bon Voyage, but the question is how much of this rumour has foundation and how much is his agent putting his client into the spotlight. Saints are once again touted as a possible destination and they are joined by Newcastle and also Crystal Palace and West Ham. The big question though is his value, his buy out clause is 45 million euros but with barely 50 top flight appearances to his name, no one is going to pay that, the media in Portugal suggest 15 million euros will be enough to secure his services, but European football websites such as transfermarkt have it as low as 6 million. The silly season has started and Saints have already been linked with enough players to fill an entire team.
