It looks like Everton may have finally got their man as it has been reported this afternoon that we have agreed a fee of £48m with them to end the transfer saga of the summer.

It will not be before time if this is true as the new season is just a week away and will spark a flurry of transfer activity next week as we look to bring in the replacements for the Icelandic international who will become part of one of the most expensive british transfers of all time.

Everton have chased the player for most of the summer and the Swans were holding firm for a price that they felt reflected his goal and assist contribution. We should add at this point that the starting source is just a fan on Twitter but it has been painfully obvious for weeks that a deal would be struck at some point although the timing is not ideal for either club given the proximity to the season start.

We await full confirmation but at £48m that represents excellent business for us but only if we use it wisely and spend it well. Over to you I guess Paul...
