Clement Coy On Incoming Transfers

After a 0-0 draw at Southampton on the opening day of the season it was no surprise that the absence of one player was a discussion point after the game as the Gylfi Sigurdsson saga continued to drag on.

Sigurdsson has been a target for Everton all summer but they have not yet matched the valuation placed on the player by the Swans and we have gone into the season with the position unresolved which is clearly something that has irritated the manager.

It was obvious to pretty much everyone watching the game at Southampton that we need strengthening on the pitch but Clement is clearly hampered by what he can do whilst this position remains open.

And he refused after the game to talk about potential incomings until Gylfi's future was resolved something that clearly he hopes will happen this week

“I am not going to speak about incoming players,” Clement said.

“The only thing that’s important at the moment is the Gylfi Sigurdsson situation.

“If that does go through, then we can start acting on getting some of our targets.

“I don’t really want to speak about other players because I don’t think that’s right until something is certain, and nothing will be certain until the Sigurdsson situation is sorted.

“We are still in a situation at the moment where there’s a difference in opinion on the valuation of the player, but I don’t think it’s far off,” he added.

“I get the sense that it’s getting closer.”

The worrying part here is that clearly we have no transfer budget any more unless there are outgoings and that shows how badly we have fared in the transfer market in recent years.
