Agyemang warns of Blackstock revenge mission – evening news
Agyemang warns of Blackstock revenge mission – evening news

Misfiring striker Patrick Agyemang has warned his team mates to be on their guard against his former partner as Dexter Blackstock’s Nottingham Forest side prepare to visit Loftus Road.

Saturday’s meeting at Loftus Road between two of the team tipped by many to be challenging for the top six has actually developed a bit of an edge to it this week with both suffering defeats on Tuesday making it six games in total without a maximum point haul this season. Both teams will therefore be under pressure to get that elusive first victory, particularly QPR as the home team starting the season with what looked to be reasonably kind fixtures prior to the big kick off against Blackpool.

Spice is added to the fixture by the presence of Dexter Blackstock and Lee Camp in the Forest line up. Both were sold by Rangers this summer, reportedly on the say so of owner Flavio Briatore rather than manager Jim Magilton, and both will no doubt be keen to show what Rangers are missing out on when they take to the field on Saturday. Blackstock has two goals to his name already this season while QPR have struggled in front of goal in their three league matches so far.

Patrick Agyemang, who has endured a poor start to the season, told the Kilburn Times today that Blackstock will pose the main threat to QPR on Saturday. Agyemang said: “Dexter can be a handful, he will have a point to prove and we'll have to deal with that. He had been at QPR for a while but he's only just left, so we know how he plays and that'll still be fresh in our minds. He scored his fair share of goals for the club, so I should think the fans will give him a good reception. When I scored at Preston at the end of last season I had loads of people coming up to me at the end saying 'well done, thank you for what you did here' and that sort of thing but that was probably because they'd won the game and got into the play-offs - I'm sure it would have been different if I'd cost them their play-off place.

"We got into the play-off final the first season I was there and lost to West Ham, then we made the play-offs again the next year, so I think that shows what a good manager Billy Davies is. He knows what he wants and always manages to get the best out of the players in his team. Forest have brought in a few new players recently and I'm sure they'll all be looking to impress him.”

Forest will be without Lewis McGugan on Saturday after he fractured his cheekbone in Tuesday’s 4-2 defeat against Watford.

Manager Jim Magilton has said he is not concerned by QPR’s poor start to the league season because of the quality of the performances so far. He told the club’s official website: “I think they started well, as they do here, but we dealt with a succession of corners very well, with the back four and Radek outstanding. We needed to take a lot more care of the ball, which we did at the start of the second half, when we created the most clear-cut chance of the match. We didn't take it though and that's the fine margins in this division. As away performances go, I can live with that. The quality was there for all to see tonight. We're creating chances and if we maintain that attacking nature, we'll win more than we lose. I'm not concerned with the results, because our performances have warranted far more than the two draws we've registered. Of course I'd be worried if the quality of our play was poor, but it has been to a good standard in the last week or so, so I'm not concerned at all.”

Meanwhile the London Informer has pointed a finger at the FA for not clearing Italian striker Alessandro Pellicori in time to feature against Blackpool on the first day when he was due to be on the bench. Rangers completed the signing on July 29 and have blamed the FA’s move from Soho Square to Wembley for the delay. The infamous QPR insider told the paper: “The registration was sent in good time, but it never got processed. It had to be sent a second time. You can imagine what manager Jim Magilton might think if Rs come up two points short of promotion in May.”

In former QPR news midfielder Stefan Bailey has joined Conference side Ebbsfleet – owned by a consortium of internet football fans you may remember. Meanwhile Sam Di Carmine has joined Serie B outfit Gallipoli on loan from Fiorentina who transfer listed him earlier this week.

Elsewhere in the Championship today, perhaps not surprisingly, there are no QPR representatives in the division’s team of the week. Gary Hooper and Shola Ameobi are rewarded for their five shared goals at the weekend with the striking positions. Ameobi was on the score sheet again tonight as Newcastle beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0. Wednesday themselves have unveiled seemingly unnecessary plans to extend the capacity of their Hillsborough stadium today.
