Evans happy to take Pompey unbeaten record to Rochdale

Scorer Gareth Evans had mixed feelings after Pompey's 2-2 draw with Wycombe - but said the players were delighted to be taking an unbeaten record into their next game.

Evans equalised with a header after Wanderers had led 1-0 at half-time, then Brett Pitman put the Blues 2-1 up, only for Wycombe to hit back with a penalty.

Evans told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk afterwards: 'We’re disappointed not to win after going 2-1 up late on, although it’s obviously a positive that the unbeaten run continues. The conditions weren’t really conducive to good football, but it was the same for both teams and that’s not an excuse.

'I think the fans could see that there wasn’t a lot of nice stuff played and we weren’t able to get into our attacking rhythm. The referee was giving a lot of free-kicks for minor things and some of the decisions were wrong, although I’d have to watch the penalty incident back again.

'A big part of Wycombe’s game is winning those petty fouls and getting the ball into the box because they’ve got physical players. It is difficult to play against and you have to adapt.

'When the game pans out like that it’s tough, but we can take our unbeaten record to Rochdale next week and hopefully get a result there.'
