FA Cup weekend - does round five beckon?
Friday, 25th Jan 2019 14:23 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The Swans are back in FA cup action this weekend as they welcome the conquerors of Cardiff City to the Liberty with former Swan Steve Lovell returning with his side hoping to spring another cup upset.

Both sides in action tomorrow had a superb result in Round 3 with Gillingham pulling off one of the shocks of the round with their win over Cardiff and the Swans winning 3-0 away at Villa Park to earn this home tie in the last 32.

The Swans will clearly go into the game as hot favourites given our home advantage and higher league status and that is proven by the bookies odds which has us at 5/12 to win whilst the visitors can be backed at 6/1 to progress to Round Five.

However the Swans have injury worries to contend with and an important league game on Tuesday night against Birmingham that may make those odds closer than we would expect. It could also be a telling sign on our plans for the last few days of the transfer window if some of the players linked with moves away don't feature which again could close the gap on those odds.

That said, we should still have enough about us to beat our League One opponents and move to the fifth round for the second successive season and one step closer to repeating last year's quarter final place.

There are strong reports that Graham Potter will field a weakened side for this game which is a huge shame given his statement of intent with his team selection for Round Three but with another former Swan in Garry Monk bringing his Birmingham side here on Tuesday you can kind of see the logic if the manager does weaken slightly?

Ollie McBurnie is the clear favourite to score the first goal of the game at 7/2 but I quite fancy Jay Fulton to put his name first on the scoresheet and he can be backed to do just that at 14/1. If you fancy wasting a few quid then you can back Joe Rodon to score first at 28/1, not bad considering his guaranteed absence through injury. Indeed, if you fancy placing that bet on Rodon then we will offer 280/1 providing you stake a minimum of £50 on it...!

Not sure we would spend much time in the correct score market for this game given the unpredictability of the team line ups but the Swans to win to nil is probably a good bet at 6/5 and we also fancy the Swans to score 4+ goals at 9/2 but may hold off on that particular bet until the teamsheets are confirmed at 2pm

Finally, we note that we are 100/1 to win the FA Cup this season or 50/1 to reach the final so why not - surely stranger things have happened?
