Cabango fifty fifty : Top of the table clash v Norwich City
Friday, 6th Nov 2020 12:04

Swansea City look to build on their impressive form tomorrow as they visit Carrow Road, the home of Norwich City, in a fixture that will see both sides go in to the international break In second place in the EFL Championship.

The first question on everyone’s lips is the injury to Ben Cabango who withdrew after the pre match warm up at Brentford on Tuesday night. As it stands Cabango is being given all the time he needs to prove his fitness to be in clouded in the Matchday squad. Cabango is fifty fifty as the swans squad travel to Norwich this afternoon before the big game. Cooper has made it clear that no risks will be taken with Cabango, and that his squad cover will be used continually after the international break due to another intense programme leading up to Christmas.

It will be their seventh game in just 22 days, and a run of nine games in 28 days will follow in the run-up to Christmas. It is an unrelenting schedule, one which will exacerbate good and bad streaks for all sides involved with so many points available in short periods of time. Head coach Cooper has acknowledged the challenge of managing the fitness of his squad given the workload but, with the scenario being the same for all 24 clubs, it is a challenge he wants to meet head-on rather than worry about. “I feel we are progressing, we are playing with the ideas and intentions I want the team to play with,” he said. “There is always room for improvement, of course. The points return so far has been decent, it could have been more had we done some things better or had some bits of luck go our way. But I just want to look forward, we know this league chucks a lot at you week in and week out. It’s a season that is about getting ready for the next game and giving that everything you have got. We are going to embrace it and enjoy it. We will treat it as a positive challenge because there is everything to play for and everything to look forward to. So, bring it on. No-one is at a disadvantage. It’s the same schedule for everyone, albeit we probably have to travel a bit more than most side, but everything will level out. Let’s go for it.”

On the subject of squad fitness Fabio Borini is still being linked with the swans, he is available on a free transfer as an unattached player with Watford also linked with him. The 29-year-old scored three goals in 14 appearances for Verona, and a return to British football recently looked to be on the cards for the former Sunderland, Liverpool and Chelsea man. Steve Cooper has remained coy on a potential move for Borini, though, with the Swansea manager recently insisting that he hasn’t heard from the board regarding a potential move for the attacker. However Julian Winter Swansea CEO has let it be known contact has been made with Borini’s agent.

More on the game build up and news as the hours tick by towards Saturdays game.
