It’s the South Wales derby today !
Saturday, 12th Dec 2020 06:48

Swansea City travel to Cardiff City for the 12.30pm kick off which is LIVE on Sky Sports TV and on Radio Wales and Talk Sport 2 for lovers of the wireless. It’s been a long time since Cardiff were victorious, is it their turn ? Or again will they fall ’short’ ?

Team news is pretty simple, Cardiff City have Harry Wilson as a doubt and the swans will give Ryan Bennett and Marc Guehi fitness tests before the game. That’s about the length of the injury news, there are long term casualties but they would never have featured today.

Last season Cardiff came up ‘short’ again in the derby losing at Swansea one nil and hanging on for a draw at home in a 0-0 draw. These encounters can be close although a 3-0 win for Swansea in 2014 is a pretty embarrassing scoreline for Cardiff. Wayne Routledge who scored that day is likely to be on the bench and is one of only a few players to have played for both clubs.

With no fans allowed in to stadia in Wales due to Covid restrictions thousands of fans of Swansea City worldwide will tune in to sky tv or join the many thousands who can access the game via Swans TV. At times this season 23,000 individual Swans TV subs have been processed for Swansea City games with an estimate of 44,000 plus watching the games on Swans TV.

Here is the home win for Swansea City last season.

The swans hold the win record in league wins against their near neighbours and had it not been for their extremely successful premier league years where the 3-0 win was recorded then there would clearly have been a lot more for Swansea. Unfortunately for Cardiff they could not match the heady heights of the Swansea’s premier league journey and when they did they came straight back down again. The swans have clearly held the mantle of being Wales best footballing team this century with a major trophy and European success thereafter but these games do have a way of levelling themselves out. Cardiff City have continued to adopt the long ball approach to games with long throw ins and punted free kicks in to a packed box. However the swans impress with a free flowing football style known in recent years as ‘The Swansea Way’ which has seen the club gain respect from commentators of the game worldwide.

There will be a full match report later plus visit this thread for all the game build up and fans reaction. It’s going to be a nervy day.
