24 year old man arrested by police : More footage disclosed
Tuesday, 11th May 2021 22:31 by David Cornish

Ex Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie has been accused of being the offender in a street fight after a video of an altercation was posted on social media in the past few hours. Sheffield United have confirmed they are ‘investigating’ the allegation. McBurnie has been arrested but not charged. Our latest on this shows more footage posted on social media. Due to no charges as yet, we are able to show this new footage at the end of this report.

His current club have recently been relegated to the championship after a hugely successful campaign last time around. Oli made his first steps in professional football at Bradford City before signing for the swans. Short loan spells at Newport and Bristol Rovers followed. He had a successful loan spell at Barnsley before starting the first of his fifty eight games scoring twenty two goals.

Never a stranger to controversy In October 2019 McBurnie was charged with drink-driving. In July 2020 he was fined £28,500 and banned from driving for 16 months. In January 2020, McBurnie was warned by the Football Association for his conduct amongst Swansea City supporters whilst attending the South Wales derby when he allegedly made a rude gesture towards Cardiff City fans.

McBurnie has always maintained his links to the swans attending numerous games with Joe Rodon’s brother Sam. In February 2021 McBurnie offered to pay for the funeral of a 26-year-old Swansea City fan who died.

This isn’t the first time Oli see’s himself in the spotlight and if proven he will no doubt face further club and FA sanctions. As far as we know no complaint has been made to the police, although that can be made at any time. We also would like to state this video has no context as to what is happening or why, indeed the identity of the offender is also in question despite numerous identifications of him being the perpetrator on social media.

The video circulating can be viewed above.

Latest : We hear now that a twenty four year old man has been arrested in relation to these allegations and is being questioned in custody. Police have commented “A 24-year-old man from Knaresborough has been arrested in connection with an incident, which involved another man being assaulted," a police statement read via YorkshireLive. The 21-year-old victim sustained facial injuries during the incident, which happened shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday, May 8 on High Street in Knaresborough. “The 24-year-old arrested man remains in custody at this time.”

As nobody has been charged we are not in any contempt to show this footage.
