Breaking ** Russell Martin in Swansea City talks - to go in to Sunday
Saturday, 31st Jul 2021 22:21 by Keith Haynes

We all know that Russell Martin is in talks tonight with Swansea City alongside his agents at 10Ten Football, and we understand there are still some details left to cover before any type of announcement is made by Swansea City FC. Understandably Swansea City followers are desperate for news.

The MK Dons boss left the ground hurriedly at the end of his sides defeat to AFC Bournemouth on the south coast unusually not acknowledging his teams supporters who had made the journey. Only stopping for a brief acknowledgement of the cherries coaching staff he was gone within seconds of the final whistle. Apparently extremely angry with Peter Winkleman giving the go ahead to release a short statement earlier in the day on Martin’s situation, he looked very unhappy as he left the ground.

We believe the main talking points will be Russell Martin’s desire to bring in his own coaching team, or at least the amount of people in that team. He most certainly won’t come alone, and of course the level of manoeuvrability he has to bring players in to the club. It isn’t thought that the salary offered is the issue on this occasion, nor the compensation fee for his services which has been agreed by the swans majority owners in the USA. We revealed the figure at £385,000 last week.

Negotiations will continue in the morning before hopefully Swansea City can at last bring an end to their manager hunt this pre season,

Dean Lewington carried out the post match press conference in Russell Martin’s absence.

Press Release that angered Martin
MK Dons can confirm that an official approach has been made by Swansea City to speak to Russell Martin regarding their vacant managerial position. To our extreme disappointment, this was received less than 24 hours prior to our first competitive fixture of the season. To minimise disruption to our players and our match preparation, it was decided that this would be discussed after today’s game. It was not our intention to release a statement until after discussions regarding the approach had taken place but given the intense media speculation, we felt it necessary to confirm the situation to both our players this morning and to our supporters before the game. The Club will make no further comment at this time while we focus on this afternoon’s fixture.
