The new boys are here, and a new chapter begins for Swansea City
Monday, 2nd Aug 2021 09:00 by Keith Haynes

The lifetime expectancy of the modern day football fans expectations are, let’s say, short. All over social media if something is remotely missing or incorrect its melt down. To bring some proper context to our clubs new boss we have embraced him and his family from day one. And yesterday’s article went down very well, I can assure you. Swansea City is a family club, welcoming a young family to the area who want to lift the club even higher. Can’t be bad.

Russell Martin looks young, that’s because he is young for a man in his position so quickly after retiring at thirty five. He talks solidly and convincingly, and throughout his sixteen minutes on Swans TV on Sunday he didn’t put a foot wrong. Clear and concise, factual and appreciative. Okay, he did say ‘ Non negotiables’ I was a bit sick in my tea at that point. But seriously Julian Winter and co have secured a four man team with ideas, innovation, new ways of communicating and higher expectations. We all know Winter was under the cosh, he had to earn his crust and by damn did he. To get Russell Martin, Luke Williams, Matt Gill and Dean Thornton as well was a real coup. We tried so hard to remind everyone that this isn’t just one man and a flat overlooking the beach, it’s a lifestyle change for young sports people with success on their minds. They have families ( why would anyone scorn a man for consulting with his wife over the biggest sporting move of their lives is beyond me ) they have to draw on all their maturity for people so young in experience and to a degree in football years. They will make huge mistakes, but I can see in Russell Martin we have a man who can travel that experiential cycle, and learn and adapt quickly.

Russell Martin knows all about the Swansea way

Okay, he said the right things, but you could see the glint in his eye, that energy that he is so ready for the job. “ I am immensely proud and excited, to be honest,” said Martin, who previously played alongside current Swans Ryan Bennett, Kyle Naughton and Korey Smith during his time at Norwich. “Everything I have heard about the club — be it from the owners, the people here who work inside the club, and people who have been here before that I know — underlines how special it is” Martin was quick to embrace the way the club works with and looks after its “ legends “ for want of a far better word. “The family club” he said, and yes, his family were welcomed too.

It’s a massively brave thing to do for Russell Martin and co. Alan Tate will be a great tutor and will most certainly pave the way for a smooth welcome. He is Swansea through and through, but aren’t we all ? We have what we ( most of us ) wanted, it’s a really exciting time for us all. Let’s embrace it and run with it. I can’t wait to be honest, it’s seriously exciting to see these people at our club.

Welcome to Swansea

And once everyone can get back in their seats I’m sure their ears won’t be able to deal with the Swansea roar. Seriously this is a time to be positive. And nothing else. Be proud to be a swan !
