Swansea City get the green light after Liverpool transfer is confirmed Tuesday, 17th Aug 2021 08:38 by Keith Haynes Liverpool have loaned defender Ben Davies to Sheffield United giving Swansea City the go ahead to further their interest in 24 year old Sheffield United and England defender, Max Lowe. Davies signed a season long loan deal with the blades which free’s up United manager Slavisa Jaconovic to allow Lowe to enter into loan talks with the swans. Lowe is seen as a utility defender for swans manager Russell Martin to utilise across the back four, but primarily at left back. Swansea City are looking to reduce their overall wage bill this season, but the signing of Max Lowe won’t do that much to assist the financial burden on this seasons acquisitions. Lowe is on £15,400 a week at Sheffield United, and unless Swansea and the blades can come to an agreement the finances are quite far apart for this deal to happen. Let alone a loan fee. Ethan Laird has signed for the swans for the season on £4,800 a week from Manchester United, a really decent deal which we reported on Sunday exclusively. This is one loan deal which will almost certainly pay off this season. Lowe on the other hand is not as much of a definite guarantee to join Swansea City. Other things need to happen. Quite quickly. In the swans favour is Lowe is not in blades boss Jaconovic’s plans this season, and there will almost certainly be some flexibility in the final financial figures for Swansea City CEO Julian Winter to assess. Russell Martin is keen to see Laird and Lowe operating as rapid wing backs, supporting an attacking three on counter attacks much the same as he implemented last season at MK Dons. Lowe has represented England at numerous levels below under 21, and Martin sees him as a first choice to what he has available presently. ![]() Max Lowe playing for Derby County We understand that five players were instrumental in Russell Martin and his team coming to Swansea City. Ethan Laird, Flynn Downes and now Max Lowe could be the third player to come in. We believe Jamie Paterson was merely a nice add on when he became available. Martin wants a winger and central striker to finalise his plans pre Christmas. To sweeten the deal it could be that Jake Bidwell will become available for clubs to inquire about, if Lowe signs that is, having spent two seasons at Swansea City Bidwell is valued in the region of 400k by the swans. Far below the ridiculous 2.5 million reported elsewhere. The blades may fancy including him in any deal as recent speculation regards Middlesbrough is yet to come to fruition. However, it is clear today Boro would want to recruit him if Max Lowe makes his Swansea switch. We do have information on Swansea players leaving the club in the next two weeks, however we won’t speculate until we have hardened up the detail correctly - with respects to all parties involved. Things will progress this week, and it is almost certain Swansea City and Max Lowe’s representatives have already spoken pending Liverpool’s Ben Davies joining the blades. Sadly now Jake Bidwell will be more than clear his time at the swans could be coming to an end. It’s a ruthless business, and to get what he wants Russell Martin will be as ruthless as they come so swans fans can see a team that excites, and gives hope after two years of productive but bland football.
