Young Swans sent home as Tuesday nights game is cancelled
Monday, 23rd Aug 2021 16:34 by David Cornish

Kris O’ Leary has seen his pre season plans scrambled as a Covid virus outbreak within his under 23 squad has scuppered any chance of fulfilling tomorrow nights game against Sheffield United. It’s really frustrating for Kris and his staff as they have worked tremendously hard this pre season and had high hopes with numerous new faces in the squad.

It’s a double blow for the young swans as last weeks home game was cancelled due to an outbreak of Covid, this time within the Peterborough United squad. The other issue is that non vaccinated players will have to self isolate for ten days

Ryan Bennett and Kyle Naughton had positive tests last week, which wasn’t disclosed immediately leaving swans fans believing they had physical injuries which kept them out of last weeks matches. This may well have been the case, but at no time did Swansea City disclose their positive Covid tests. It was only Flynn Downes and Ben Cabango who were left out of Friday nights game against Bristol City who were believed to be isolating.

Russell Martin explained on the weekend “The guys wear masks, they're really strict and diligent with that, but they also spend time in the dressing room together. The club did well last season with Covid numbers, but now things have opened up we have to be more aware”

It’s disappointing for the under 23’s to have their second game of the season called off, both fixtures will be rescheduled in due course.
