Swansea City transfers out over the next six days
Wednesday, 25th Aug 2021 09:10 by David Cornish

On Tuesday evening at 11pm ( 31/8) the transfer window closes, it is certain that by that time a number of deals will have been completed by Swansea City on players coming in and on players going out. It’s no secret that Russell Martin wants the right player with the right mindset to join the swans for the rest of the season, or even on a permanent basis.

Talking about the clubs progress Russell Martin said after the 4-1 defeat of Plymouth in the league cup he said: “We’re working hard at it. This window has been very slow in general but I think it will come to life at some point. We’re not going to get people for the sake of it, just to try and bring someone in. We have clear targets who we are in discussions with. We have a couple of guys who really want to come and play here. It’s about making sure the finances are right for us and the club they’re coming from. I’m sure by the end of the transfer window that will come to life.”

Russell Martin wants players who want to buy in to the Swansea ethos, his own personal style of dominating the ball and tiring out opponent’s. “ We don’t want ego” he said, “We want players to be able to put their ego to one side and be a part of the group, and importantly off the pitch” There still seems to be room for Jake Bidwell to leave the club, although Martin has enjoyed working with him Bidwell doesn’t possess the pace he requires at left wing back, plus Bidwell is a saleable asset. On that subject Martin said “unless that happens he will be here, he will be in with a shout of playing as long as he continues to perform to the level he has. I think he has got better game on game. I like Jake as well."

Martin also indicated that several players like Dan Williams will be assessed this week, Williams who turned in a superb performance against Plymouth surprisingly still likely to go out on loan to get games. Bidwell and Williams would free up spaces, Bidwell would free up cash. Middlesbrough have a valuation on Bidwell but it’s around 400k adrift of Swansea’s expectations. No bid has been made but four other clubs are extremely interested in a sensible offer for the 28 year old. On Morgan Whittaker he would be extremely foolish to let him go, that’s our opinion any way.

Matt Grimes trained yesterday and met with the clubs hierarchy regards his position at Swansea, nothing is known regards the outcome, but the recruitment team plus Julian Winter will talk this afternoon and plan a way forwards for the coming six days. On Grimes Martin said “ I don’t know where he is” ( jokingly) but stated as it stands he is in his plans for Saturdays away game at Preston. Liam Cullen could also go out on loan.

It’s likely that one or two swans players will become of interest over the coming days, Jamal Lowe has been mentioned as has Jay Fulton, however Martin will want to keep both as important players within the squad.

More information as we receive it, it’s going to be a hectic six days.
