Deadline day money will roll in to Swansea City
Tuesday, 31st Aug 2021 10:25 by David Cornish

Swansea City have started their fire sale of players over the weekend, and it looks likely that Connor Roberts and Jamal Lowe are the first to leave the club today. The swans are in negotiations for four players this morning, it’s the way of the transfer window, everyone is just waiting until the last minute.

Jamal Lowe completed a medical at Bournemouth this morning after travelling to the club last night. Connor Roberts, although still injured has been told that a deal in principle has been agreed by the swans which is around 2.7 million pounds. It’s down to him now as to what he does. Swansea City have had no recent inquiries for Jake Bidwell, and CEO Julian Winter has made it clear that 4 million is the asking price for Matt Grimes.

No news at all on players coming in bar Tony Elanga the 19 year old Swedish international currently on Manchester United’s books. United will want decent money for any player sale and the news we have is he could become available for a loan this afternoon. It’s a straight run in for him between the swans and Peterborough United.

News updated throughout the day.

The phrase "firesale" is fashionable but misleading. It suggests panic and chaos. This is not the case at Swansea. Swansea have three football professionals with a single vision and doing their best to give the manager what he wants. All players going will be replaced with as close to like for like as possible. £10m r so for three players out of contract might not seem good business but the market has collapsed. Swansea can get in good players and pay good wages with that money. Roberts Grimes and Lowe will save £1.5m in wages. Selling Lowe means perhaps Whittaker and Joseph can stay in the squad.
