Michael Obafemi “ I’ve waited so long to come here”: New Swansea City signing is delighted
Wednesday, 1st Sep 2021 08:00 by Keith Haynes

New Swansea City forward Michael Obafemi has stated very clearly to swans fans this morning “ I can’t wait for this, Ive waited for so long to come here “ Having missed out on a last minute January loan deal from his then club Southampton, Obafemi was badly injured just five minutes before leaving Southampton’s Sunday training meet In January to discuss loan terms with Swansea. In fact he had packed his bags and was ready to go. That’s how close it was.

The dramatic last minute injury saw Obafemi out for months before his slow process of rehabilitation last season came to an end successfully. The main issue for Michael wasn’t the rehab, it was his desire to find a club that played football, and wanted him to be a part of a clear future. At the time Steve Cooper was the ‘boss’ at the swans. Times have changed, recent meetings with Mark Allen and Russell Martin have convinced the new swans manager that Obafemi is a very decent replacement for Jamal Lowe. Jamal left Swansea last night after two weeks of discussions regards him leaving Swansea City. These things don’t happen in five minutes.

Knowing that Jamal wanted out of Martin’s Swansea City future, Obafemi was one of four forward players Swansea wanted to secure. Kevin Nisbet of Hibs was one inquiry, but the fee required was two million over the amount Swansea wanted to pay. The others matter not now, we will discuss them in due course, but now, Michael Obafemi is a Swansea City player.

We hope to bring you Michael Obafemi’s first interview as a Swansea City player as he joins up with his new team mates on Wednesday evening. Normally Obafemi would be with his fellow countrymen in the Republic of Ireland squad, however on this occasion he was omitted.

Obafemi on the face of it is a clear swap compensating for the loss of Jamal Lowe, however, his desire to be at Swansea could well mean the swans made an astute move yesterday evening for the vibrant Ireland international.

News later on Olivier Ntcham who is still on Swansea City’s radar.
