Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City
Wednesday, 1st Sep 2021 10:00 by David Cornish

Fulham came back again and again for Swansea City captain Matt Grimes on deadline day. Despite a final offer with add ons of nearly three million pounds the club rejected every bid. Unfortunately for many swans fans this meant Tariqe Fosu of Brentford could not complete his deal to come on loan to west Wales. Pretty much all was agreed apart from a loan fee.

Tariqe Fosu was very keen to sign for Swansea City as late as 10pm last night, and Swansea City reinforced their four million pounds request for Grimes signature to Fulham very late on. We understand a three million down payment with the rest in add ons would have secured Grimes. The call was not returned. The fact Swansea and Fulham were literally a few hundred thousand pounds away from an agreement should tell Grimes how much the London club valued his services. Despite months of negotiations Fulham consistently moved the goal posts, even though their loan players leaving the club tripled their offers for a permanent Grimes deal.

Swansea City will see this as a positive for the club, leaving them with time to renegotiate a new deal for their much sought after captain.

The agreement in principle when Steve Cooper was managing matters in Swansea timed out when he left the swans. So that’s it, Grimes stays, Fosu doesn’t join the swans, and those that said two players would arrive on deadline Tuesday win the day. However, Olivier Ntcham could make it three before today concludes. The free agent is in Swansea this morning looking to secure a three year contract at the club.
