Swansea City & Russel Martin ‘Statement of intent’
Wednesday, 1st Sep 2021 14:00 by David Cornish

The window that has possibly been the busiest for Swansea City in a very long time, if ever, has thankfully closed. The players, including we hope *Olivier Ntcham later today for us have improved Russell Martin’s selection choices. We must not forget Matt Grimes and Dan Williams staying increases depth and quality.

Jamie Paterson, Flynn Downes, Ethan Laird, Rhys Williams, Joel Piroe, Kyle Joseph, Michael Obafemi, *Olivier Ntcham and Liam Walsh have all joined the club to take on the season in a Swansea City shirt. That’s a massive statement of intent from the club despite the moaning from certain quarters that it hasn’t been a successful transfer window. The most money spent since the swans were relegated too. It’s very hard to satisfy some people.

The loss of Connor Roberts was a blow, but he needed to ply his trade at a higher level, as did Jamal Lowe, but instead he joined Bournemouth. Both players on their day were fantastic for the swans, however things move on and life takes over. We wish them well, millionaires to boot, let’s not feel too sorry for them.

For us, by December this squad will be showing huge signs of improvement, everything takes a while, even moulding a new club ethos and implementing tactical knowledge. Yes, Russell Martin is good enough for this club, his team behind him are also well respected in their field. This website is a Swansea City website for Swansea City supporters. Nine new signings is as big a statement of intent any club could make, it’s an exciting time ahead. And we all know it’s going to be as rocky as hell, just how we like it.

Cor - you are easily pleased. Until we had these owners we had a PL future. Now we will do well to survive in the Championship this season. But at least this transfer window means that our rookie coach (there’s an American term for you) has his own players to work with. Let’s see what he is able to do with them by December and take it from there.

Which is exactly what the article states.

I'm in the camp that thinks you should only buy players who are better than the ones you have got, We're happy to bring in Bristol City rejects (three at the last count) and we've stocked up with midfielders on frees or from lower divisions. It is unclear whether they are significantly better than Grimes, Fulton or Dhanda but they close the door on youngsters like Ollie Cooper. Better business up front; Piroe looks tidy and let's hope Obafemi clicks
