Swans captain Matt Grimes speaks out on Russell Martin
Friday, 10th Sep 2021 09:00 by David Cornish

Swansea City skipper Matt Grimes has spoken for the first time in nearly two weeks about Russell Martin and his attempts to introduce a completely different mindset and strategy to the club. Ahead of tomorrow’s game at home to Hull City, Grimes, albeit remaining uncontroversial has stated he is also aware that this whole process will take some time.

Talking ahead of the Hull game Grimes said “ It is a really useful time for us because it gave the gaffer a chance to really get his methods and instructions across. Since his appointment, we only had a couple of days before the first game, and it’s been two-game weeks since then, which means he hasn’t really had the chance to properly implement his style on the team just yet because there hasn’t been enough time in between. I think the fact that everyone understands that it will take patience and time for everything to click is important. You don’t often hear about that in football, but here at Swansea, we have fans, players, coaches and staff who understand that aspect. The last week has been great for us, and the squad are taking those messages on board and hopefully you can start to see that in games, starting this weekend.”

Great to hear the squad which has been training pretty much as a full unit have enjoyed and learned that little bit more in the well deserved time off they have had. Although things are looking far better for team selection this Saturday a number of players are either recovering from the effects of Covid or physical injuries sustained prior to the international break. A full team update will follow tomorrow morning.
