Ntcham gives a Posh warning & Russell Martin is enjoying the break
Tuesday, 26th Oct 2021 11:04 by David Cornish

Swansea City, along with the rest of the Championship get a deserved break this week from travelling and playing games in this tough old division. The swans confident in the limelight in Wales as ever with tremendous performances against Cardiff City and West Brom before the mask slipped slightly on Saturday in defeat at Birmingham. However the vast majority of swans fans are more than happy with the pathway being plotted.

It has been an exciting season for most swans watchers so far, the extreme delight in beating Cardiff followed up by that seriously tasty WBA performance has been more than satisfying. Of course some quarters are still enjoying any slip or fall from grace that Russell Martin displays, but they are oh so few in the minority.

Talking after the Birmingham City game Martin said “We are nowhere near the finished article. I said that after two great results. With no pre-season we are still playing catch up. The players are in a much better place physically than they were, but I think it has just taken its toll. There will be some guys who need to get some work in and there are some who will need rest, but a free week is brilliant for us and it’s more time to work. We haven’t been blessed with time when we came here. We have a lot of work to do and we have a bit of time to get some in this week.”

The lack of pre season and the clear statement earlier this month that the medical team were not being listened to ( Be that by Tate or Cooper ) Matin is right. Pre season is so crucial to a club and its squad, it forms the way they work and progress for the rest of the season. He is getting supported by everyone at the club and 99% of the clubs support so for us this game in the weekend is the real tester.

Will we see a more vibrant and attacking Swansea City this weekend ?

Peterborough United are no mugs either, they have already beaten Derby, Birmingham, Hull and QPR. They showed endeavour and spirit to secure that win. That last result was a special one for the club. They, like Swansea are not pulling up trees continuously, but they are showing a class and a discipline that will give them every chance of a second season in the Championship. Remember they came up with a winning mindset, and that’s hard for any opposition to disrupt.

Olivier Ntcham is also disappointed about the Birmingham result but also fires a warning "It was a little bit frustrating, we managed the first half really well, we felt like we were in control," he said. "We had a couple chances to score, but we were expecting a better second half, obviously that didn't happen so we are a little disappointed. "We have to keep the positivity, but overall we just need to be more clinical in front of goal. "We need to be more ruthless in front of goal, and on top of that, we need to be more vicious and start creating more opportunities."

That frustration could be seen on Saturday so let’s hope if Ntcham is given another start, and we expect that to be the case that he Matt Grimes and Flynn Downes will be the maestros in this plan to create more chances. The expectancy from many is for a home win, but you only have to look at the swans opponents games this season to understand that is far from the case.
