Russell Martin speaks out about the Rangers & Norwich farce
Friday, 19th Nov 2021 13:00 by David Cornish

As we reported two weeks again when the barmy press army started rounding on Gerrard and Lampard in the media. When they linked names just because they once kicked a ball for a club. Of course it sells newspapers and gets you noticed. All along though we here at Swansea Independent continued with what we knew. Russell Martin was going nowhere.

It was never going to happen, even when the sums for Russell Martin’s services reached ten million pounds, they weren’t true of course, but it helps to sow that fearful seed he may walk out on the swans after three months. Mentions of how he left MK Dons and the misleading comments attributed to him before he joined the swans were brought up. You just had to smile. We had a word with a few people and of course it was quickly put to bed, even though some of the more negative outlets ( and a few so called fans ) wanted it to have some more legs.

Russell Martin talked of the alleged interest today. “ I guess it shows we’re doing something right that we’re getting linked with other jobs. But I pay no attention to it. We're really happy here. Really focused with what we're doing. We feel there’s so much potential here over a period of time. "We just need to keep growing. Keep improving. I think we’ve got a really exciting group of players that are just giving us everything we can ask for” Thats great news for everyone, he clearly doesn’t want to go anywhere, he is financially secure and lives the place he is in. It’s just a shame nobody listened two weeks ago when they responded with unlikely and false responses.

"We just win some more games, and ignore the noise whenever it comes along”

You do sometimes sense a little anger in his voice as these types of stories, manufactured and unreal as they always come with an integrity question over Martin and his coaching teams real position. "A link is just that. A link. It's absolutely nothing. I don’t want to disrespect either club, but even if there was something to it, we wouldn't be going anywhere. We're really happy here with what we're doing. There’s so much to improve on as a team and a club. "I genuinely hope we can be here for a long time, until the club decide we’re no longer wanted or whatever. We have an objective to achieve something in the time that we're here. The fact that the players have been so willing to do what they’ve done, so quickly and give us such a good base to work from is really exciting for us”

With that all said the swans are in a good place and very keen to shake off that kast result in Bournemouth. That’s the focus now, not some nonsense reported by news agencies nobody knows by people nobody can contact.

Swansea City head in to tomorrow’s clash with Blackpool in what will be a far tougher game than we witnessed against Peterborough United and Cardiff City. We will have a full Friday evening reports service and latest news around 7pm.
