Whittaker and Obafemi are called in to training early
Saturday, 27th Nov 2021 12:51 by Keith Haynes

Both Swansea City strikers Michael Obafemi and Morgan Whittaker were in training by 9am this morning. As to why on a match day these two players would be doing extra rounds is open to speculation. However, what we do know is the rest of the squad selected for today were not with them bar a few of the usual treatment issues pre match.

Two things to draw from this is there was a fitness assessment on both regards match fitness and capability to play today. Secondly, it could be they are training as usual as they will not feature in today’s match day squad. The latter is possible as both were excluded from the match day squad on Wednesday for the victory at Barnsley. However, nothing is confirmed. What is confirmed both players were the only two first team squad players training this morning, and you can draw from that what you wish.

Both are valuable assets to Russell Martin but as he has made clear recently, inclusion in the squad is just that, make yourself included, be a part of the group and you will reap the rewards. If that’s the brief then these two training alone this morning sort of sends it’s own message to both players.

** Update : Both players have not made today’s match day squad.

Both players have talent both players struggling to get game time both players have deficiencies in they games or conditioning that Martin has explained to them. They are in the same boat. Good that they are pairing up. Has it dawned to fans that they may be there training hard out of their own free will and imitative?

If I was them I would leave the manager in no doubt i'm in for the job 100%. " If I am not picked it not down to lack of application".
