Swans ready to swoop for Hearts defender ?
Tuesday, 7th Dec 2021 15:14 by David Cornish

Twenty six year old Hearts defender Craig Halkett is one of seven defenders the swans are concentrating on in the January transfer window. Halkett is having a great season for the Jambo’s with his side currently third in the Scottish Premiership.

Not only is he getting recognition for his defensive play he has started weighing in with the odd goal as well. The attacking flair of Hearts this season fits in well with Halkett’s swashbuckling style, and he loves getting forwards. At one point the defender was top of the goal scoring Jam Tarts charts last season. Recently he celebrated scoring against Rangers, the club he started his career with. Talking about that goal Halkett said “I managed to get away from my marker and having an attacking mindset, you just hope that the ball’s going to break to you, however it did” he explained. “McGregor’s gone up and it looked like he was going to get it. But I saw the ball all the way and was just hoping at the last minute he was going to miss it. Thankfully he did and it was just about steering it on target” That mindset appeals to Russell Martin and we have had it confirmed Halkett is very much in the swans thoughts. However there are numerous other defensive players they are monitoring.

The Scotsman is out of contract in June 2022, and has yet to sign a deal which the Tynecastle club are keen to see him do. We understand he is keeping his options open, and that he would love the opportunity to play in England. His contract offer remains unsigned and there’s little information available that he will sign it. That leaves the swans open to follow up their interest in a couple of weeks and add Halkett to Russell Martin’s ever improving Swansea City squad.
