First Swansea City January signing seems to be all agreed
Sunday, 12th Dec 2021 10:12 by David Cornish

MK Dons keeper Andrew Fisher is believed to be pretty much signed and sealed pending a move to Swansea City in January. Our sources tell us that behind the scenes talks have now progressed to the extent that he will be one of the new January additions,

Fisher who has impressed at MK this season arrived two years ago from Blackburn Rovers on loan. Upon his arrival Russell Martin, then MK boss said of his new goalkeeper: “We went through a list of goalkeepers at the start of the month and he was the one that we identified and wanted. We’ve fought off a lot of competition to get him. “He comes in with really good pedigree. Everyone I’ve spoken to about him, speaks really highly of him. I think he’s a good addition and he certainly strengthens our squad. He’ll be good competition for Lee and our goalkeepers here.” Goalkeeper Coach Dean Thornton added: "Andrew is someone I've known about for a while. I have a good working relationship with Blackburn Rovers' goalkeeper coach and he holds him in high regard."He's a modern-day goalkeeper, who has command of his box, is a good shot-stopper but is also good with his feet. He fits in with our style of play and he will provide really good competition for what we already have"

In October 2020 Fisher signed a permanent deal with MK Dons. Having now played fifty eight games Martin see’s him as first choice for Swansea City which is why so much work has been put in to getting his registration for January. This will pave the way for Steven Benda to find another club as it seems Ben Hamer will be offered a further one year deal despite recent very poor performances. The content of the deal won’t be released until next month, but as it stands it seems Fisher is on his way, and to be honest he can’t come to SA1 quick enough.

Martin Margetson appeared to rate Steven Benda. A an international coach he should have a good eye. I hope Benda can go on loan to a possession team to continue his development. How many Margtsons are there in the academy. Noticed another Margetson in the u18 team sheet the other day. Presumably a goalie.
