Russell Martin indicates a complete tactical change for Swansea City
Thursday, 23rd Dec 2021 12:13 by Gruff Stephens

A change of tactical strategy seems on the cards for Swansea City in their upcoming games, starting as quickly as the proposed game against Millwall on Boxing Day. With the game still in doubt Martin has indicated a flexibility in his planning which could mean a formation switch to get both Obafemi and Joel Piroe more game time together.

“There’s been a few occasions where we've got them on the pitch together," said the head coach. It's certainly something we've been working on and looking at. It's definitely something we are really considering. Joel has been so good in playing one up top, it's been really difficult for Michael to get an opportunity in a one. There are games where we'll end up in a two, but we can create a lot of chances with just the one up top. There's always a balance to be had. If we play with a two we have to lose someone somewhere, and the guys behind them have been really strong, especially in midfield, that's been one of our strongest units. But it's something we're working on so the guys are ready for if we need to do it in a game or if we need to start a game like that then they'll be ready and have as much detail as they can on that."

Obafemi to be given more opportunities ?

On Obafemi’s continued attitude and time keeping up until the end of November at least Martin was again open on the issue. “He's done nothing major but there's stuff we need to help him with," said the Swans boss after the 4-0 loss to Bournemouth. But Martin now believes the Republic of Ireland international - who struck his only goal for Swansea to date in the 2-1 loss to Birmingham City - will prove his worth to the Jack Army in the second half of his debut campaign with the Swans.

"Michael is in a really good place. I think he's really ready to take off in the second half of the season," added Martin. Michael is really ready to play now. He looks in great shape physically. Mentally he's in a really good place and he seems to be much more settled into life here and enjoying it. The rest of the group have been fantastic with him."

As it stands Millwall and Swansea face each other at the new den on Sunday with a 3pm kick off. What are your thoughts on the swans rethinking some of their tactical match day planning ?

Good news thay Swansea's biigest recent signing is grafting to get in the team. Like Piroe he did not cut it at the top level teams where there re big players on huge wages ahead of them. If MO and J hit it off the club vcan make ap uh for the play offs. January window priorities are goal keeper and play maker . A dead eye corner and fee kick man.
