Millwall v Swansea City COVID-19 update MATCH POSTPONED
Thursday, 23rd Dec 2021 13:10 by Keith Haynes

Millwall manager Gary Rowett continues to be slightly vague on his teams health issues just three days before their game against Swansea City. However, it is clear he is struggling to function with anything close to a full squad. And news now is the game is off.

Last week sixteen squad and under 23 players had been diagnosed with Covid-19 symptoms and their game against Preston North End was postponed. Those players have been in some form of isolation and that was reflected in Tuesday mornings training session with just ten senior players available. Clearly there are still players out or even more positive cases which leaves the lions on the brink of not being able to field a team for Sunday’s game. The EFL are expected to play hard ball with clubs this Boxing Day with unbelievable recovery figures for Premier League clubs and players pending the lucrative Amazon Christmas football deal.

The premier league have made it clear any team that has thirteen players and a goalkeeper available will play on Boxing Day regardless of their reported positive tests. The EFL will reflect that criteria to an extent with the fear ahead that games are about to be the first thing hit in any future new government criteria. Last night saw packed stadiums at Spurs, Brentford and Liverpool and it was noticeable very few were wearing masks. With an expected hundred thousand plus new cases to be announced later today the whole fixture calendar is again on the brink.
