Russell Martin favours Brandon Cooper over Rhys Williams Swansea & Liverpool latest. Walsh rumour !
Saturday, 1st Jan 2022 12:30 by Keith Haynes

Rhys Williams came on loan to Swansea City from Liverpool with a big reputation from some extremely positive games for the Anfield club last season. With his back line decimated at times Williams stepped in and Jürgen Klopp was overjoyed with his contribution.

Quite rightly Klopp wanted Williams to further develop, and after a successful loan for Rhian Brewster in west Wales which earned Liverpool a huge transfer fee, Williams seemed destined for the same club exchange. Unfortunately Rhys hasn’t featured in that many games, in fact only four of any note and really his season fell apart after being racially abused at Luton in the swans 3-3 draw earlier on in the season. The knock on from this we don’t know but Rhys was well looked after by the swans, and found himself taking time out which hasn’t really done him any good at all.

It’s been a struggle for him to say the least.

We have reported that Williams has been the subject of interaction between Liverpool and Swansea with his parent club concerned as to his development and lack of game time. Don’t be surprised if he is recalled and offered out on loan to another club or even sold on in January, although the summer is more likely. Conversely Brandon Cooper would see Williams leaving as a big opportunity for him to step in to a more permanent first team role. We do know from recent training sessions he has been very much involved. However, we also now know the swans have been training with over half of their squad missing in the past week. An example being yesterday when only eleven fit players were available to train. Only nine featured earlier on in the week.

It’s a sad fact Rhys Williams has had a very disappointing loan spell at Swansea

The financial permutations have all been done by the swans and Martin most certainly favours Brandon Cooper over Rhys Williams. Rhys did return to Anfield then a loan spot is freed up and of course the wages as well. Certain swans loan targets are on pretty low salaries bar two, news of which we are still working on from a specific London club ( not Chelsea ) Where that rumour came from is baffling, and it isn’t Arsenal either by the way.

And more surprising, Liam Walsh who has featured a lot in those daily training routines hasn’t been seen for over a week. It could be Walsh has been diagnosed as Covid positive, although there is some speculation that due to his lack of game time he would prefer a move away from the swans this month. Again we wouldn’t be surprised if he is pushing for something away from Swansea this month. What we do know is if he is isolating then he is doing the best job we have seen from any swans player this season.

He is nowhere to be seen.

Speculation of course is always rife around transfer window month in January, and we are certain some bizarre and obscure things will be reported. We intend to keep you up to date with everything here on Swansea Independent.

What are your thoughts on this months transfer ins and outs ?
