Swansea City receive interest for loan target Liam Cullen : Explained
Thursday, 6th Jan 2022 10:08 by Felts on Swansea

As yesterday ended the swans received two inquires for young striker Liam Cullen. This after he was circulated as ‘available’ for loan. However, we also understand a permanent move away would also be considered. That would more likely come in the summer if he had a successful loan spell elsewhere.

It’s an ideal situation for Liam as it is for Morgan Whittaker, two clubs are keen to secure his services for the rest of the season, one being Portsmouth, the other with mild interest is Newport County. With Kyle Joseph surprisingly being recalled from Cheltenham by the swans yesterday rumours are also circulating that he could go back out on loan. There are others believing his recall is to back up the squad with more players expected to leave soon.

Why Portsmouth and why now ?
We did report Cullen’s links with Portsmouth last month, manager Danny Crowley is keen to strengthen his clubs promotion push and Liam definitely needs game time. The other reason that Pompey are keen is the transfer merry go round is well and truly in flow. Portsmouth are aware that Fleetwood are about to get a huge transfer cash boost for the transfer of James Hill to Bournemouth, believed to be around a million pounds. That leaves Fleetwood in a strong position to continue their pursuit of Portsmouth striker Ellis Harrison. The Cullen inquiry makes sense.

The transfer window hasn’t really got going yet but it is early days, and we know Jake Silverstein has business back in the USA in around a weeks time. He will be keen to at least get things in place with a less than previously estimated transfer budget. Whittaker leaving and now possibly Cullen will help matters, not massively but every penny helps. The swans are now operating without the premier league parachute payments but do have some financial flexibility with Joe Rodon’s latest instalment from Spurs in the pipeline.

What are your thoughts on the current swans transfer situation ?

Looks more and more that we have to move players on before we can commit ourselves to a cash outlay on players.
Isn't there a ruling that a player can't play for three teams in one season so if there is, surely Joseph can't go out on loan to another club as he played for the Swans earlier in season.

Joseph was happy at Cheltenam. He will not be going out on loan again I suspect. Martin needs to start following Swansea principles of developing home grown talent. Joseph is a grafter and can come on off the bench to add energy in most games to give Patterson a break.

Has Martin seen enough of Cullen to allow him o leave for a fee? Can Cullen convince him he str ill has a future at Swansea with a sack full of goals? Martin has the "dirty dozen" 19-22 year olds to find homes for either h in his first team's squad or on loan. I expect Joseph, Garrick, Brandon Cooper Cabango, and possibly Ollie Cooper to make the cut. Dan Williams and Latibeaudire need to impress.
