Russell Martin makes it very clear on Swansea City funding
Friday, 14th Jan 2022 12:04 by Felts on Swansea

Speaking before this weekends Huddersfield Town game swans boss Russell Martin has made it clear significant funds are still required to meet with the clubs targets this January. That leaves the swans in a position we are now reading about most days.

The club need to ensure Yan Dhanda and Jay Fulton depart at the earliest convenience and Jake Bidwell’s departure is either sorted quickly or resolved in the best interests of both club and player. Fulton and Bidwell will attract fee’s, Dhanda is debatable. Speaking on that subject Martin confirmed reports from this website earlier on in the week “We’ve got a couple of people who are getting closer to being satisfied with the options they have, a couple of players who have rejected moves away because they’re not satisfied with what’s on offer. That changes constantly," he explained. “It’s a really difficult time for players. The uncertainty makes a manager’s job harder and a player’s life harder. I just want to get through it as quickly as we can."

The saving on salaries is crucial. This would pave the way for Matt O’Riley to become a more than realistic target now both clubs have spoken and the fee of around 750k is known. Martin has now revealed “Matt O’Riley is a fantastic player but he’s an MK Dons player. He would be a permanent addition that would take a certain level of investment for him to become a player away from MK Dons," said the head coach. "Before we do any business, especially permanently, it will take investment coming in. The club is in a very different position financially than it has been for the last, however long, and we have to respect that and make sure that we’re planning accordingly. But I don't want to comment on any individual players. He’s a guy I've got a lot of respect for as a player and a person. I wish him nothing but success in his career. He’s having a fantastic season”
