Swansea City prepare seven figure Matt O’Riley bid . Joe Rodon link is key
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2022 17:10 by Gruff Stephens

We have been told that a bid well in excess of a million pounds is on the table for MK Dons midfielder Matt O’Riley despite press reports the swans are unable to afford him. Which we know is untrue.

Swansea City are keen to get one from Matt O’Riley or Harry Darling in before the end of the transfer window and have sufficient funds to do so. The club still have funds incoming from Tottenham Hotspur from the Joe Rodon sale eighteen months back, and have taken a loan set against those payments which will be incoming from Spurs in October 2022 and 2023. The club have also secured investment from their part owners in the USA for player expenditure, and have interest accruing still on a variety of investments. This has all been put in place and agreed by Director Jake Silverstein this month. The management of players out is coming to fruition with Jake Bidwell securing a move to Coventry yesterday. Loans of players to Ireland, Lincoln City, Peterborough and more to come will trim the salary bill considerably.

Very few if any clubs pay all the cash up front these days in any transfer, and we understand a deal with MK Dons was close last week, albeit they want more, but the terms and conditions of payment were not favourable.

Everyone will have an opinion on players, money and how it’s done this month. There are few though who can know or claim to know the real factors in the final moves this transfer window will show us. We write what we write with what we know, and what we have been told to an extent. Certain information just isn’t right to disclose in the interests of Swansea City. Another player who could be leaving after one of the most bizarre displays of behaviour seen by a swans player is Jamie Paterson. Terminology on this we all understand, the silence is deafening. He too will require replacing, and the funds in place already without a sale of Paterson will secure that. That is if his downing of tools turns out as most swans supporters want.

Matt O’Riley wants to sign for Swansea City

The Paterson situation is one extra headache on top of the Ethan Laird issue earlier this month, and something a well run and progressive business operating within football league like Swansea don’t need. The best laid plans are being manipulated by other clubs and players, but we know and appreciate that Matt O’Riley wants to come to Swansea, and the club have it within their gift to make that happen.

But they also have to remember, Blackburn Rovers are not too far away either.

We’ve seen more misinformation this transfer window than ever before, maybe O’Riley is just a darling ?

It woud be nice to replace 30 year old Patterson with 21 year old O'Riley. Some fans here are suggesting Swansea city break contracts. Narsingh saw his last year out and did not give a fig and Swansea had to pay. Ayew was taking a big chunk of the wages himself and Swansea honoured his contract. He was gone in a flash on the last minute of the last day.
