It was two days ago we started to hear of an exciting new signing coming in to the club, and yesterday morning the news broke that twenty two year old Hannes Wolf from Borussia Mönchengladbach was that player.

We initially reported an exciting move by the swans two days ago, click below for that report. We then quickly linked up with other mainstream websites, then a recruiting source in England for Wolf’s agents, and did a bit of digging.

Exciting new signing on his way

As usual with certain first reports on this website it was met with derision, some confusion and of course interest as we would expect. With Swansea City staff in France, and a slight delay with the players visa, the news we reported was as far as we could go at the time. So now Hannes is in Swansea, the paperwork done apart from the usual clearances to conclude it seems the swans have their man. Some medical issues will be addressed today and it is hoped the club will announce Hannes later this afternoon. Hannes completed his training rehabilitation on Monday in Germany after an injury, which reflects to us this could well be a risky move. That’s the only negative with this. Memories of Jordan Morris last January are still fresh in the mind. However, the swans medical staff have given him the okay so the visa issue could be addressed.

It all went very smoothly.

Swans Indie breaking news confirmed

Swansea City were very keen to bring in an attacking midfielder this window, Matt O’Riley at MK Dons was the speculated target, the main information close to him last week was he is very open to joining the swans. Money had been prepared to secure him. Along with ourselves Football Insider had similar information to us on Monday about O’Riley, and it was clear the swans were in a two way chase with Celtic for him. People will smile at the thought of Celtic and Swansea being mentioned in the same transfer sentence, and of course the Scottish side will have access to more funds than Swansea City.

But I remember Martin Hayes !

With cash available Swansea decided to remain interested in O’Riley but also cleverly moved for Wolf. He of course was linked to join Celtic just three days ago. The report is available here.

Hannes to sign for Celtic report

Any link with the swans wasn’t evident ( openly ) even on Tuesday when we managed to source some information on a player coming in from Europe. We knew there was a slight visa issue, but nothing drastic. That’s how the ball got rolling. That report by The Scotsman above, and indeed by a very credible source flew in the face of bhoys manager, Ange Postecoglou stating last week he wasn’t in the market for players unless something exceptional occurs. The link between the swans and Celtic over Wolf and now O’Riley may well surface at the seasons end. ‘We believe‘ if Hannes performs well and is injury free at Swansea he will join Celtic in the summer. Where that would leave O’Riley if he joins Celtic this or next week is anyone’s guess.

It’s an interesting scenario.

It has to be highly unlikely that Swansea City are paying Wolf’s reported £100,000 a month salary, his injury progress would surely devalue that somewhat, and no report of a fee has been made. It doesn’t seem a lot of money ( in football terms of course for a top player) he isn’t far off Ryan Bennett’s swans wage, his agent Dirk Hebel usually do release these figures in time.

Hannes Wolf has had a disappointing season to date at Borussia Mönchengladbach, only featuring once in October. Still valued by his club at around €9 million, they purchased him from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a rumoured €11 million. His loan to Swansea will be discontinued at the end of this season and there is no option to buy the player. That is on this loan, as we know players are always available. Only an astonishing next half of this season by the swans, promotion to the premier league and an on fire Hannes Wolf would see the swans in the mix for his signature. It’s a lovely thought, however, let’s scratch it from our minds.

Hannes Wolf will bring some very exciting pace to this current Swansea City side, he has capability to play centrally in midfield or be deployed on either wing. He has scored thirty three goals in one hundred and sixty six games, and last season bagged three in thirty three for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He isn’t at Swansea for his goal scoring prowess, but is described as an extreme talent when on top form. When he signed for RB Leipzig coach Ralph Rangnick ( now at Manchester United ) said “Hannes caught our attention due to his prominent development, which is reflected in his numerous national and international outings, in spite of his young age. His strengths make him a versatile option across the attacking midfield. I’m delighted he’s decided to take the next step in his career with us here.”

Hannes clearly enjoys the trappings of his football life and the money involved, he has a passion for cars and has a steady relationship as well. His hobby is cooking and his team mates can vouch for that, Hannes is never short of people wanting to meet up for dinner.

He seems a focussed and determined young man not afraid to come to Swansea and ply his trade in the championship. He comes with no bad news stories, something manager Russell Martin will have had looked into diligently. And as we reported on Tuesday the swans boss is absolutely delighted with this signing. And I tell you what ? We are as well.
