Jamie Paterson to have ‘Talks’ this morning with Swansea City
Monday, 24th Jan 2022 09:00 by Keith Haynes & David Cornish

Swansea City will hold talks with Jamie Paterson this morning reference his strange behaviour over recent weeks in an attempt to resolve his current situation we are told. No wether it’s Swansea or Paterson who has made the first move isn’t certain, but what is certain is this will not be a one way conversation.

We all read the first grumblings from Jamie Paterson way back the week before last when we reported his omission from the game away at Huddersfield.

Paterson won’t play ⚽️

Then on the Monday Paterson wanted talks with the club.

Now Paterson wants to talk ⚽️

That was a week ago. The club decided to fine him the maximum amount of two weeks wages and told him to train with the under 23’s for a week as some form of punishment. He had refused to play for Swansea City after all and again wasn’t ‘in the right frame of mind ‘ on Saturday against Preston North End.

On Friday Russell Martin made it more than clear he liked Jamie but felt he had been given some ill advice. His agents at Unique Sports Group clearly had been whispering away in Paterson’s ear about money, transfers and the like. In August the player agreed to a one year contract with the swans, he was basically out on his own for the first time in his career. That was with the advice of Unique Sports Group, and the one year transfer trigger in the contract was an automatic clause that could be activated by the club or Paterson. Swansea City took advantage of this agreement, and not before talking to Jamie they extended his contract as he had performed well for the club.

Instead of being happy and content his average earnings throughout his career of around £375,000 being guaranteed he decided the only way forwards was to clearly go on strike and not play for the swans. And with all due respects to Jamie we don’t buy any other reason than money for this behaviour. Another time of the year, potentially so, but not in January, in a transfer window where money is at stake. If anyone has driven Jamie to distraction and caused him these health issues it’s his agents, not Swansea City.

We know that talks will take place today, Jamie Paterson and his agents may well think they hold the keys here, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Swansea City are incensed at his behaviour, and his attitude to the club and it’s supporters recently. Yes, there is a door slightly open for him, but it’s only very slight. There has to be a lot of manoeuvring by Paterson, a lot of believable apologies for this whole scenario being created which has affected Swansea City directly.

And all in the name of money.

In general terms our view here is get rid of him. Put him on the transfer list and off you fo. If nobody pays the requested transfer, put him in the under 23’s until the summer and then get rid. The only very small issue for us is Russell Martin, does he see a way back for Paterson after his behaviour ? Can he trust him to be around a squad of players that are now performing well with his current attitude ? Personally we think not, but Martin has made some noises towards a sympathetic angle to Paterson’s creation of these issues. Maybe that’s his salvation, the manager he let down ?

All we are sure will come out in time this week, but this club doesn’t need Jamie Paterson playing games and all over money. Not when it’s entirely unnecessary and unprofessional that’s for sure.
